A spoon is a
utensil consisting of a straight handle with an enlarged and hollowed end-piece (the bowl),
used for conveying soft or liquid food to the mouth.
It could also be employed in the culinary preparation or other handling of this.
"To make a spoon, or spoil the horn" is an old saying meaning to make a determined effort to achieve something.
About the verb 'spoon'
1) to lift or transfer by means of a spoon
2) to hollow out, make concave after the fashion of a spoon
3) lie close together, to fit into each other as spoons
4) to make love, especially in a silly or sentimental fashion
5) golf: to hit a ball in putting so as to lift it
6) other sports: to hit, lift or push, sometimes connected to a particular sound
7a) in sailing to run before the wind or sea, to scud (spoondrift, spindrift)
b) in sailing to move rapidly on or upon another vessel

Spoon can also mean a simple, shallow or foolish person. (Chiefly British)

'Spoonerism' means slip of the tongue, such as "queer old dean" for "dear old queen" and "blushing crow" for "crushing blow".
Spoonerism was named after Rev. W.A. Spooner (1844-1930), of New College Oxford, who was noted for such slips.
Then there's 'spoonbread' which is baked corn-meal mush (pulp),
often made with meat cracklings and served with, of course, a spoon.
